Type 1 Diabetes Sucks.
Yes, I said it. It sucks.
But being the optimist in my family, I try to find the positive in everything. Some days are easier than others. Today... definitely one of the harder days.I should probably introduce myself.
My name is Kristina, I am a mother of two very adorable little girls. B is 7 years old and a T1 diabetic that also was recently DX with Hypothyroidism. I remember getting that phone call and thinking... at least its not celiac disease, or something that could be 20x worse than getting a pill once a day for the rest of her life. (She's already taking 3-4 shots a day to live thanks to type 1 diabetes... what's one pill?)
But today is one of those days that I just cannot seem to find the positive attitude I can usually count on to get me out of my funk. This time it's not even my daughters, or husband, but other members of the DOC (Diabetes Online Community) that are going through a tough time...
One thing that T1 has done in the past 3 1/2 years since B was Dx with T1, is introduced me to a whole online community of moms, dads, and caregivers of Type 1 diabetics. One of those moms I found out lived under 20 minutes from us. I never had the opportunity to meet with her face to face, and today she is in my thoughts, along with her husband and young children. One of her children being a T1. Their mother is in ICU fighting for her life from a mysterious ailment, and the doctors do not have any answers, nor treatment options available.
Did I mention that I am a Zumba(r) Fitness instructor? Another amazing woman I have met through the Zumba(r) family is also a mother of a type 1 diabetic, who is dealing with one of her worst fears tonight. That her non-T1 son may possibly have Type 1 diabetes.
My normally optimistic attitude just cannot be found tonight. I mean, where is the good in two little boys loosing their mother, or a young teen having T1?
It seems it never ends and life just keeps us T1 parents on our toes.
